I trimmed my pubic hair and began getting red bumps in my pubic area. How can I prevent them?

Man covering his crotchI trimmed my pubic hair and began getting red bumps in my pubic area. I’ve only had 2 and popped them both, but I’d like to prevent any future ones. How can I do so?

If you develop folliculitis (infection in the hair root), blisters, or pimples in your pubic area after trimming or shaving, you can:

  • Soak in a warm bath and apply a thin layer of a topical over-the-counter antibiotic such as Bacitracin®.
  • Stop shaving.

Remember: Call your health care provider if you don’t have any relief within a couple of days, the bumps are getting bigger, or your skin is red.
