It is neither good nor bad to have anal sex. It is a preference, but just like sex between men and women, having sex comes with risks. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), young gay and bisexual men who have sex with men are at a greater risk of acquiring a sexually transmitted disease (STD). This is partly due to the fact that the tissue inside of the anus is delicate and can tear easily causing bacteria to enter the blood stream. The anus also lacks natural lubrication which can also result in injury to the tissue inside of the anus during penetration. While condoms can’t protect you against all types of STDs (Herpes and the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) can be spread from skin to skin contact), condoms are your best bet to lower your chance of getting an STD.
