Thanks for your question. Many people have questions about their uncircumcised penis. It’s great that you are taking care of the skin on your penis. In general, we recommend gently retracting your foreskin when you shower, and cleaning your penis with mild soap and warm water. This helps prevent smegma.

We also recommend using only gentle lubricants on your penis. Some lubricants and moisturizers can cause irritation that may cause smegma.

Lastly, there’s a chance this is not smegma. Anyone with a penis can get an infection caused by Candida (a type of fungus). This can cause think, white discharge. Your risk for Candida can increase if you are uncircumcised or an athlete (sweat can cause moisture that helps the Candida grow). The good news is that Candida can be treated with a medication prescribed by a healthcare provider.
